• 1950 – संविधान सभा ने 1950 में राजेंद्र प्रसाद को देश का पहला राष्ट्रपति चुना था
• 1961 – हॉलीवुड स्टार मर्लिन मुनरो का पति आर्थर मिलर से तलाक़ हो गया. दोनों की शादी पाँच साल तक भी नहीं चली.
• 1965 – ब्रिटेन के पूर्व प्रधानमंत्री सर विंस्टन चर्चिल का 90 वर्ष की उम्र में निधन हो गया था
• 1966 – आल्प्स की पहाड़ियों में मोंब्लॉ के शिखर के पास एयर इंडिया का बोइंग 707 विमान दुर्घटनाग्रस्त हो गया. इसमें 117 लोगों की मौत हो गई.
• 1857 – भारत के कोलकाता शहर में यूनिवर्सिटी ऑफ कोलकाता की स्थापना की गई
