  • 1900 – बॉक्सर विद्रोह: चीन ने औपचारिक रूप से संयुक्त राज्य अमेरिका, ब्रिटेन, जर्मनी, फ्रांस और जापान पर युद्ध की घोषणा की थी.

  • 1989 – The U.S. Supreme Court ruled in Texas v. Johnson that American flag burning was a form of political protest protected by the First Amendment.
  • 2002 – Zamiruddin Sarkar became president of Bangladesh.
  • 2004 – SpaceShipOne became the first privately funded spaceplane to achieve spaceflight.
  • 2005 – Edgar Ray Killen, who had previously been acquitted of the murders of James Chaney, Andrew Goodman and Mickey Schwerner, was convicted of the murders 41 years later.
  • 2006 – Pluto’s newly discovered moons were officially named Nix and Hydra.
  • 2012 – 17 people died and 70 others went missing in a boat carrying more than 200 refugees in the Indian Ocean between the Indonesian island of Java and Christmas Island.
